The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi celebrated the handover of the consortium leadership from German Research Foundation – DFG India Office to German Academic Exchange Service – DAAD in form of a ceremonial get together on 28th April 2016 at the German House in New Delhi. The event was attended by the academic and scientific community in Delhi and representatives of various diplomatic missions in India. The consortium leadership will administratively be taken over by DAAD on June 1st 2016.
Inaugurated in October 2012, DWIH New Delhi is one of the strategic initiatives of the German Federal Foreign Office’s to internationalize science and research. Set up with the aim of enhancing the outreach of the German science and research landscape in India and exploring opportunities to synergize and stimulate cooperation between the German and Indian scientific communities, DWIH New Delhi is a successful consortium of 15 German organizations comprising funding institutions, research centres and universities.
DFG India office has served as the consortium leader from its inception in October 2012 till the end of May 2016. Under its leadership, a plethora of outreach activities were organized pan India to promote German science, research and education. Starting from ‘Excellence on Tour Roadshows’ in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata to “Art meets Science Exhibitions” in New Delhi, Puducherry, Kolkata, Gandhinagar and Bangalore, DWIH New Delhi has organized many Info-Sessions and Education Fairs in reputed universities and institutions in India. Additionally, DWIH has participated in many events to reach young scientists, students and faculty members to inform them about German research landscape.
During the handover ceremony, Dr. Alexander P Hansen, Chairman of DWIH New Delhi and Director DFG India Office gave an overview of these activities and highlighted the outcome which has eventually led to an increase in the number of Indian students in Germany. He introduced Ms. Heike Mock, Director DAAD India as the new consortium leader and handed over a high-tech Translucent Concrete Tile manufactured by LUCEM GmbH, Stolberg, Germany, with optical fibers arranged in such a way to depict the name “DWIH”. Dr. Hansen also launched the DWIH Annual Report 2015. The evening concluded with a networking dinner reception attended by around 120 guests.
