A young Start-up wins Falling Walls Lab India for Cold Chain Management
Falling Walls Lab India 2019 concludes in Manipal on 30 March
This year’s India edition of the Falling Walls Lab took place on 30 March 2019 at the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education - MAHE. It had Dr H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Dr Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, MAHE and Margit Hellwig-Boette, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bengaluru for the inaugural and the award ceremony. Ms Boette was also on the panel of jury.
Mayur Shetty representing Blackfrog Technologies Pvt. Ltd. won the first position for Breaking the Wall of Ice-Box for Cold Chain Management. He will compete with Falling Walls Lab winners from across the world at the global Lab finale that takes place in Berlin, Germany on 8 November 2019, and also gets a ticket to the prestigious Falling Walls Conference on 9 November where leaders from science, industry and policy-making meet. The trip to Berlin is financed by the DWIH New Delhi. Second and third winners were Navjot Kaur from Indian institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Nitish Singh from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur who pitched with the themes ‘Breaking the wall of access to expensive molecular diagnosis’ and ‘Breaking the wall of paper’ respectively. Nitish Singh also bagged the Audience Choice award.
The DAAD and DWIH announced yet another award on this occasion for young talents in the context of entrepreneurship. Sidharth Ramesh from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal is the proud recipient of this for the presentation on ‘Breaking the wall of medical data’ and will get the opportunity to participate in a 5-day entrepreneurship boot camp in Germany.
The Falling Walls Lab India 2019 was organised by the DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service and DWIH - German Centre for Research and Innovation New Delhi, in partnership with the department of Clinical Embryology, Kasturba Medial College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal.
Falling Walls Lab is a unique competition that provides young researchers and entrepreneurs a platform to present their research project business plan or social initiative. The challenge is to present this in just 3 minutes! 16 finalists from across the country selected through a rigorous process by field experts shared their top notch research and entrepreneurial ideas on themes as varied as but not limited to health problems and diagnosis, energy conservation, effective processing and production etc.

The Falling Walls Foundation initiated on the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall is an international platform for leaders from the worlds of science, business, politics, the arts and society. The question around which these events revolve is “Which will be the next walls to fall?” and the answers are often provided through some kind breakthroughs on the scientific, business or social place.

The most intriguing presenters of the locally hosted Falling Walls Labs travel to the Lab Finale in Berlin, Germany on 8 November. All finalists win a ticket to attend the Falling Walls Conference where they meet the world's movers and shakers of science, business, and policy-making. The three winners of the Lab Finale in Berlin are awarded the "Falling Walls Young Innovator of the Year" title and prize money.
