The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi organised “DWIH Horizon: Art Meets Science” exhibition in Kolkata from 10th to 15th March, 2015. The weeklong event included a Higher Education and Research Fair (10th & 11th March) as well as a Photo Exhibition (10th to 15th March) displaying a cultural highlight combined with ample first-hand information on research and innovation in Germany.
DWIH Horizon Art meets Science was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Rainer Schmiedchen, Consul General of Federal Republic of Germany, Kolkata; Professor Dr. Anuradha Lohia, Vice-Chancellor, Presidency University Kolkata and Professor Dr. Frank Allgöwer, Vice President DFG. Among other dignitaries Professor Dr. Dorothea Wagner and Mr. Wolfgang Zurborn, German Artistic Photographer were present. Ms. Eleena Banik, Kolkata based painter of national and international repute graced the occasion with her presence and delivered the inaugural address. The Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Alexander P. Hansen, Chairman of the Board of DWIH New Delhi.
The Higher Education and Research Fair saw participation from 10 consortium members of DWIH New Delhi. This presence included leading German universities, research funding organizations and educational institutions. These institutions disseminated all necessary informationat their respective stands, required by Indian students, scientists or researchers to pursue their careers in Germany. The programme of the Art meets Science event also included various scientific talks and lectures conducted by German institutions represented under the umbrella of DWIH New Delhi. Dr. Tuhin Ghosh Faculty member of School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University in Kolkata presented a lecture on: Research and Development Perspective in Disaster Prone Areas’.
To conclude the programme on 11th March, “The New Vistas: Indo-German Cooperation”, an Indo-German Alumni Conference was organised which including a panel discussion highlighting cooperative ties in the fields of Higher Education, Research, Skill Development and Economic Relations between the two countries. Representatives from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), Kolkata and German Engineering Federation (VDMA) will form the panel.
The Photo Exhibition showcased photographic works depicting everyday life in India. Captured by Indian photographers during the Photography Master Classes “The Theatre of Real Life” conducted during the “Excellence on Tour!” road shows in Ahmedabad and Kolkata, these photos have now been assembled into an inspiring exhibition by the renowned German artistic photographer Mr. Wolfgang Zurborn.
DWIH Horizon: Art meets Science captured the essence of photographic art and scientific activities under one roof.The event recorded a total footfall of 1,200 visitors to the Higher Education and Research Fair as well as the Photo exhibition.
