Taking up the DWIH’s Motto of “Germany Land of Ideas”, this Joint Lecture Series aims at paying tribute to the different facets of Alexander von Humboldt’s academic achievements. The German House for Science and Innovation (Deutsches Haus für Wissenschaft und Innovation, DWIH) is a consortium of about twenty members for strengthening academic exchange between Indian and Germany. Heidelberg Center South Asia (HCSA) has initiated this Lecture Series, jointly with the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD). By doing so, we aim at bringing together scholars from the fields of Natural and Social Sciences, as well as Humanities and Literature. The Lecture Series will be held over the next few months, with prominent scholars from India and Germany.

Hopes are high for a new and improved tuberculosis vaccine: Serum Institute of India is planning on taking a promising vaccine - originally developed in Germany - and introducing it into the clinical setting. Studies have shown that the new vaccine is more effective and better tolerated than currently available options. By signing a contract with the Hannover-based Vakzine Projekt Management GmbH, Serum, one of the World’s leading vaccine manufacturers, has effectively secured the license to the various patents and technologies related to the new vaccine.

Dahlem Research School at Freie Universität Berlin has established a research fellowship program – co-financed by the German Excellence Initiative and the Marie Curie Program of the European Commission – to provide funding for outstanding postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines to conduct their own research project at Freie Universität Berlin. The aim is to support highly-qualified postdocs with international research experience and to integrate them into the university’s research networks in an early phase of their career.

The program is designed to promote the further academic career development through research funding, a tailored qualification program and the opportunity to develop teaching and leadership skills. The program furthermore provides essential professional guidance on preparing grant proposals to support DRS fellows in obtaining funding for follow-up research projects at Freie Universität Berlin.

Day One of the week-long roadshow also brings to India globally-celebrated Gunter Bennung, popularly known as Clown Shiven, who has been travelling worldwide as a clown for 33 years
