The German House for Research and Innovation – DWIH New Delhi organized a workshop on “Need of Sustainable Cities” during the ''Stuttgart meets Mumbai'' intercultural get-together and wine festival at Taj Lands End, Mumbai held on 22nd and 23rd January 2016.

The German House for Research and Innovation – DWIH New Delhi organized its annual New Year Reception on January 19, 2016 at the German House in New Delhi.

Dr. Alexander P Hansen, Chairman of the Board of DWIH New Delhi hosted the reception together with the DWIH consortium members. The event was attended by around 100 guests bringing together the representatives of diplomatic missions, Indian government officials, researchers and professors of leading institutions and universities amongst other representatives of the Indian academic and scientific communities.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides information about higher education and research in Germany, and is the world’s largest funding organization promoting international exchange of students and scholars. Each year over 100,000 students and researchers worldwide supported by the DAAD are able to gain valuable experience and expertise at home and abroad. DAAD’s annual budget for international academic exchange is over €440 Million.

A new initiative to strengthen academic cooperation between India and Germany

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and University Grants Commission (UGC) are all set to intensify their cooperation. During the recently concluded third Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultations, DAAD Vice President Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee und UGC Chairman Dr. Ved Prakash signed an MoU to this effect in the presence of German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi organized an Info-Session titled “Explore Opportunities of Higher Education & Research in Germany” on 10th October 2015 at IIT Gandhinagar (Palaj Campus). The 1-day info-session saw participation from leading German institutions under the umbrella of DWIH New Delhi on one hand side as well as nearly 150 students and faculty members of IIT Gandhinagar on the other hand. The participants received ample first-hand information and learned about the opportunities of higher education, science and research in Germany.

The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi visited the Bosch Centre of Excellence in Automation Technologies at Dharamsinh Desai University (DDU), Nadiad in October 2015. The delegation included 4 DWIH New Delhi members namely Heidelberg Center South Asia (HCSA), University of Göttingen, Max Planck Society (MPG) and German Research Foundation (DFG). The objective was to understand the institute-industry partnership and visit the laboratories set up by Bosch in collaboration with DDU to train young engineers on high-tech equipment used in the industries.

The German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi in collaboration with National Institute of Design, NID organized the DWIH Indo-German Art Connect from 10th to 18th October 2015 at National Institute of Design (NID) Gandhinagar from 11 am to 8 pm. The 9-days long exhibition showcased selected works from Photography Masterclasses “The Theatre of Real Life”, conducted by acclaimed German photographer Wolfgang Zurborn at NID Gandhinagar (Nov 2013) and Kolkata (Feb 2014).

Indo-German Dialogue on Excellence in Research and Education

The series of symposia ‘Indo-German Dialogue on Excellence in Research and Education’, an initiative supported by DWIH New Delhi, aims at bringing together Indian and German decision makers and leading experts in the education sector, to jointly and comprehensively discuss the multifaceted and all-encompassing aspects of excellence in teaching and research, to exchange ideas and experiences with regard to the challenges and opportunities and to identify areas of mutual interest.

For the year 2015 symposia are planned in New Delhi and Bangalore.

The symposium in Bangalore will focus on the topic:

‘Industry Academia Cooperation as a Key Impulse for Excellence in Research and Education’
