Under the ambit of the Indo-German bilateral project Indo-German Social Security Programme (IGSSP), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH organised a three day workshop from 16 – 18 January for professionals to be placed with state governments for implementation of India’s national health protection programme. Six professionals were selected and trained to work in the states of Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Telangana, Tripura, and West Bengal.

Heidelberg Centre South Asia, South Asia Institute, Indian Institute for Tropical Meteorology, Indian Chest Foundation, both in Pune, and the Health and Demographic Research Center in Vadu, in collaboration with Friedrich Naumann Foundation, organized a workshop on ‘Urbanisation, Climate Change and Health’, part of HCSA series of initiatives and events on Smart Cities. The workshop took place at the German House for Research and Innovation, on October 26. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Stephan Lanzinger, Head Science and Technology, the German Embassy. Under the joint umbrella of the European Science, Technology and Innovation Platform in India (EU STI Platform) and the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH), Heidelberg Centre South Asia (HCSA), BayIND (Bavarian-Indian Centre), Fraunhofer India and EU STI, will conduct an international workshop on ‘Smart City: Mobility, Infrastructure and Energy’ at Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Indiranagar, Bangalore, on September 16.

This workshop is part of a series of pre-events leading to the German House for Research and Innovation (www.dwih.in) annual conference CityScapes, which will take place between September 29th and October 1st, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Concurring with the World Water Week (28th August – 2nd September 2016) with a focus on ‘Water for Sustainable Growth’, GIZ has launched a 6-day intensive skilling programme for skills development of the technicians and helpers of the existing CETP and ETPs of the industries The skills development activity is a part of the “Sustainable and Environment-friendly Industrial Production” (SEIP) project of the Indo-German Development Cooperation. The programme is supported by SCGJ (Skill Council for Green Jobs of the National Skill Development Corporation) and VIA (Vapi Industries Association). The programme offers sills development ton selected modules from the Qualification Packs developed by SCGJ for the ETP/CETP technicians and helpers.

The 7th Indo-German Energy Forum, under the co-chairmapship of  Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Pujari and State Secretary, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Government of Germany, Mr. Rainer Baake will be held on 29 September 2016 in Berlin, Germany.

The Indo-German Energy Forum, initiated by the German Chancellor and Indian Prime Minister in April 2006, provides a platform for high level policy makers and representatives from industry, associations, financial institutions and research organizations from both India and Germany.
The meeting provides a unique opportunity for public and private sector stakeholders to convene and develop a common understanding of the most promising opportunities for Indo-German cooperation in the energy sector.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, signed an Implementation Agreement for a new Indo-German Development Cooperation project on “Sustainable Environment-friendly Industrial Production” (SEIP) on 16 June, 2016.

The agreement was signed by Mr. A.K. Mehta, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) MoEFCC and Dr. Wolfgang Hannig, Country Director, GIZ India, in the presence of Ms. S Dorasil, Counsellor / Head of Department (Economic Cooperation and Development) from the German Embassy.

Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Jörg Hacker, President, German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina presented a lecture on the topic “Science and Society – Infectious Diseases as an Example” on 4th February 2016 at the German House, New Delhi. The lecture was conducted under the banner of Science Circle Lecture series and was jointly organized by the German House for Research and Innovation - DWIH New Delhi, the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in India and the German National Academy of Sciences – Leopoldina.
